Day 2 - Look out Canada, here we come!

Believe it or not, we woke up at 8:30 AM to what looked like a beautiful day. Since the campground was basically empty, we had the bathroom/shower to ourselves. Let's just say, they were "basic". However, the large moths and barn swallows thought they were "top-notch". It took a little convincing to get Allison to go in for a shower! By the time be got back to the RV, it was raining. We all had some tasty "Take Shape For Life" oatmeal and rearranged the van for traveling. By then the rain had stopped and we headed out to explore the International Peace Gardens. Obviously June 23rd is not the best time to visit the Peace Gardens - not many flowers were in bloom. The center gardens of the Peace Gardens were very nice. We took a walk around the 9-11 memorial, the peace towers and chapel, and the bell tower (bells chime every 15 minutes on warm days - I guess it wasn't warm enough because there were no chimes today!) Stopped at the gift shop and bought a couple souvenirs then drove out the gates to the boarder check point. No problems getting through - they looked at our passports, but didn't even ask to see the health certificate for the dog! (I am SO glad we spent that $10.90 at the vet for the health certificate!) We continued up to Brandon, Manitoba - didn't realize the countryside all looks just like ND! We stopped in Brandon (2nd largest city in Manitoba) at Staples and Safeway for more supplies. We are spending the night just outside of Regina (rhymes with vagina !!! for real, eh!) Saskatchewan, at the "Buffalo Lookout RV Campground". We took the last spot they had available for power and water. We are still trying to figure out the hot water heater - think we will ask some of the other RVers for advice. We are planning to have our "lean & green" meal of steak and salad - after working on this blog . . . we have Internet connection at this campground from the laundry room -but it closes at 9PM and it is currently 8:45PM, so we decided to get our "homework" done before eating! PS - this campground is mostly the home to construction workers, living in their trailers while they work on the "pipeline" - whatever that means.

  1. Julie told me about this blog - look forward to following you guys on your fun trip! Sounds like it's off to a great start! Hearing about all the campgrounds reminds me of my trip to visit you w/ Grandma & Grandpa. It was always a treat when they'd pick a KOA since they always had a swimming pool. The things you remember... That was like 15 years ago.

    Safe travels!
